New weekly food waste and fortnightly rubbish collection service from March 2025

Cornwall Council are preparing to start the new weekly food waste and fortnightly rubbish collections Mid West Cornwall from March 2025.

This important new service has already helped people in the first 3 rollout areas of Mid, South East, and West Cornwall to recycle over 5,000 tonnes of food waste, increase the amount of recycling they collect, and reduce the amount of rubbish and street litter.

They are almost ready to start introducing this new collection service in Mid West Cornwall to make it easier for our community to contribute to the creation of a thriving, sustainable Cornwall by reducing    our waste and recycling more too.

The first “Get Ready” leaflet telling people that the changes are coming, started to be delivered from 21 October. This also includes the Christmas rubbish and recycling collection information which will be different this year.    Get Ready Leaflet

The food waste caddies and new bins or protective sacks will begin to be delivered from November this year.

Mid West Cornwall is the largest and final area to receive the new collection service which we have been rolling out across Cornwall since January 2024. Cornwall Council recognises that there will be some unique challenges in this area including student accommodation, second homes, holiday lets, and large numbers of terraced housing.

Support through the changes
You will find all the information you need to adapt to the changes in your Get Ready, Get Set and Go leaflets, which they will deliver directly to you through your door and in your food caddies.

Households that want more information can go online to www.cornwall.gov.uk/wastechanges and anyone needing more personalised help can get face-to-face support at our community roadshows from our recycling officers.
